Sarah the Scientist

This morning we hosted Sarah the Scientist and a bunch of home educated kids and did some interesting and exciting experiments and investigations. First they made fossils - sharks teeth and dinosaur (T-Rex) teeth, and Tmo thinks Megladon back teeth too,

Looked a big pile of different fossilised teeth and matched with handout and info sheet:

Took a closer look with magnifying glasses:

All really interested. Looked at some amazing fossils Sarah had - a sea slater, woolly mammoth hair, various trilobytes, petrified wood...

Chromatography. Caoimhe hypothesized the paper would get wet:

Timo hypothesised the paper and water would change colour. What will it do?... He was right, it did change and the ink moved up the paper as the water ascended until the ink removed completely from its initial spot.

Caoimhe's shark tooth, Riley jumping with hers.

We also made rockets outside with berocca and film cannisters - pretty fun!
